Past Special Projects

A $1.4 million dollar project, completed in 2019 with considerable help from board members and board funds restricted for bricks and mortar projects. The project resulted in a more welcoming and professional entry to the HAS facilities while providing space to meet and mingle.

Designed by Oak Park Architects, “…the renovation of the 1968 Taub Hall [opened] the lobby into an inviting gathering, exhibit and event place that visually connects the front entrance of the Art school to the courtyard and Sculpture building beyond. Glass walls and new windows, minimal finishes and period fixtures and furnishing preserve the concrete structure and spirit of the original building.”

Glaze Room Ventilation and Glass Studio Upgrades (2021)

Alumni Exhibition:
REDUX: 2020 + 2021 (2022)

The Dean of HAS appealed to the Board to support several important upgrades to ensure the continued success and safety of HAS students.

In the Krieble Ceramics Center, ventilation in the glaze mixing room was upgraded to industry standards, a new spray booth for glaze application was installed, and the metal glaze-mixing tables and storage bins were purchased to replace older, wooden equipment.

Project support also included funds to move the emergency gas shut off valve to a safer, more accessible location in the Glass Studio, and to cover a repair of the inside of the glass crucible/furnace.

From February 19 to March 19, 2022, the Donald and Linda Silpe Gallery at the Hartford Art School hosted the first iteration of the newly revamped alumni exhibition program. In partnership and with generous support from HASE, Inc., 45 alumni exhibited their work as part of REDUX: 2020 + 2021, an invitational exhibition for the recent graduates who had their BFA thesis exhibition affected by the pandemic.
